About James Roderick Burns

James Roderick Burns was born in Stockton-on-Tees in the north east of England in 1972.
James Roderick Burns is the author of two short form poetry collections – The Salesman's Shoes and Greetings from Luna Park (both from Modern English Tanka Press) – and managing editor of the UK journal Other Poetry. Under the Other Poetry Editions imprint, slated for a revival with a number of single author collections in 2013, he has also edited two anthologies: Still Standen and Miracle & Clockwork: The Best of Other Poetry Series Two. He edited and introduced A Gathering Darkness, Thirteen Classic English Ghost Stories published by Palamedes Publishing in 2016.
Having completed a PhD at the State University of New York in 1999, and graduated with distinction from Oxford University’s MSt in Creative Writing programme in 2009, he currently writes for Sphinx, the dedicated pamphlet review, and is working on a novel about nineteenth century ‘scourge of the pornographers’ and founder of the New York Society for the Suppression of Vice, Anthony Comstock. He serves as Deputy Registrar General for Scotland and lives with his wife and daughter in Edinburgh.
